{"id":14,"date":"2013-05-01T12:59:30","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T12:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silks.csb.gov.in\/aizawl\/?page_id=14"},"modified":"2023-02-09T11:44:12","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T11:44:12","slug":"rearing-of-eri-silkworm","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/silks.csb.gov.in\/dhenkanal\/rearing-of-eri-silkworm\/","title":{"rendered":"Rearing of Eri Silkworm"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\" width:760px; height:650px; overflow: auto; margin:0px; padding: 0px 15px 0px 15px;\">\n<h1 align=\"center\">Techniques of Rearing Silkworm<\/h1>\n<h3>Rearing of Eri Silkworm<\/h3>\n<h5>Rearing room:<\/h5>\n<p>Rearing should be conducted in well ventilated and fly proof rearing room with 4ft. all around verandah.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/silks.csb.gov.in\/ballia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/03\/trs12.jpg\" alt=\"silks\" width=\"256\" height=\"193\">\n<\/p>\n<h5>Disinfection<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li> Wash the rearing room and appliances with 0.05% bleaching powder solution before rearing.<\/li>\n<li> Keep the appliances inside the rearing room and seal the cracks on the walls of the room.<\/li>\n<li> Fumigate with 5% formaldehyde solution under high humid condition.<\/li>\n<li> Open the room after 24 hours.<\/li>\n<li> Disinfect the rearing house at least 3 days before and soon after the rearing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Races:<\/h5>\n<p>Borduar white, Genang local, Nongpoh pale cream, Kokrajhar red.<\/p>\n<h5>Season:<\/h5>\n<p>Rearing can be conducted throughout the year except in dry\/hot weather.<\/p>\n<h5>Egg incubation:<\/h5>\n<p>Incubate the dfls at 24-26 0C and 80-90% relative humidity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/silks.csb.gov.in\/ballia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/03\/trs13.jpg\" width=\"326\" height=\"178\"><\/p>\n<h5>Brushing<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash hands with 2% formalin solution and then with water.<\/li>\n<li>Brush newly hatched worms on tender leaves during morning hours.<\/li>\n<li>Rear maximum 300 nos. of 5th instar worms per 3 ft. x 3 ft. diameter tray.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Feeding<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li> Feed 1st instar worms on tender, 3rd and 4th instar on semi-matured and 5th instar on matured leaves.<\/li>\n<li> Feed the worms 5 times a day with castor or kesseru leaves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h5>Bed cleaning:<\/h5>\n<p>Resort to bed cleaning daily.<\/p>\n<h5>Ripe worm collection<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Ripe worms become yellowish white and start roaming for selection of site for cocoon formation.<\/li>\n<li>While picking up the matured worms and rubbing in between fingers, a sound of hollowness is produced.
