Mulberry Pests

Pink mealy bug (Tukra)

  • Collect the infested portion (along with the pest) in a polythene bag and destroy by burning.
  • Spray 0.2% of DDVP (@ 2.63 ml/litre water 12 to 15 days after pruning. Safe period: 15 days.
  • Release predatory lady bird beetles Scymnus coccivora @ 250 adult beetles/ac.

Leaf roller

  • Spray 0.076% of DDVP (@ 1 ml/lit water 12-15 days after pruning.

Safe period: 15 days.

  • Release egg parasitoids Trichogramma chilonis   @ 4Tricho cards/acre after 3 days of chemical spray.

Thrips

  • Spray 0.1% of Rogor (@ 3 ml/litre water 12-15 days after pruning.

   Safe period: 20 days

  • Release predatory lady bird beetles Scymnus coccivora @ 250 adult beetles/ac.

Silkworm Diseases

Grasserie

  • Conduct thorough disinfection of rearing house, surroundings and appliances with recommended disinfectant solution.
  • Conduct an optional disinfection with 0.3% slaked lime solution when high incidence of disease noticed in the previous crop.
  • Practice personal and rearing hygiene.
  • Maintain optimum temperature and humidity in the rearing house.
  • Do not feed tender leaves in  late instars, feed quality mulberry leaf and avoid overcrowding.
  • Apply bed disinfectant, Ankush or Vijetha as per schedule.

 

Muscardine

  • Conduct thorough disinfection of rearing house, surroundings and appliances with recommended disinfectant solution.
  • Practice personal and rearing hygiene.
  • Avoid low temperature and high humidity in the rearing house. If required use heater/stove to raise the temperature.
  • Regulate bed humidity during the rainy season by dusting slaked lime powder during moult.
  • Control mulberry pests in the mulberry garden.
  • Pick up diseased larvae before mummification and dispose them by burning.
  • Apply bed disinfectant, Ankush or Vijetha and Vijetha supplement as per schedule and quantity.

Flacherie

  • Conduct thorough disinfection of rearing house, surroundings and appliances with recommended disinfectant solution.
  • Practice personal and rearing hygiene.
  • Feed silkworms with good quality leaf. Do not provide over matured/over stored /dirty leaf.
  • Avoid starvation, overcrowding and accumulation of faeces in the rearing bed. 
  • Rear silkworms under optimum temperature and humidity.
  • Avoid injury to the larvae.
  • Apply bed disinfectant, Ankush or Vijetha as per schedule.

 

Uzi fly

  • Avoid accidental introduction of silkworm pest, uzi fly (Exorista bombycis) by following precautions:
  • Do not transport any reeling/seed cocoons from the uzi infested area to your area.
  • If cocoons are marketed from your area to uzi infested area, ensure that no uzi maggots/pupae are hiding in the gunny bags used for transportation of cocoons before taking them back.

Agro Meteorological Advisory for West Godavari District

  • Avoid feeding of wet leaves to the silkworms.
  • Provide proper spacing to the silkworms.
  • Control mulberry diseases, pests and silkworm diseases by following management practices.
  • Avoid accidental introduction of silkworm pest, uzi fly.

Mulberry Diseases
Leaf spot
  • Collect the infested leaves in a polythene bag and destroy by burning.
  • Spray 0.2 % Bavistin (Carbendazim 50% WP) solution(@ 2 g/litre water).
  • Safe period: 5 days.
Bacterial leaf blight
  • Collect the infested leaves in a polythene bag and destroy by burning.
  • Spray 0.01%  Agrimycin (1g/10 litre water)
  • Safe period: 15 days  OR
  • Spray 0.01% Streptomycin (1g/10 litre water)
  • Safe period: 15 days
Mulberry Pests
Pink mealy bug/ Tukra
  • Collect the infested portion (along with the pest) in a polythene bag and destroy by burning.
  • Spray 0.2% of DDVP (@ 2.63ml/litre water) 12 to 15 days after pruning. Safe period: 15 days.
  • Release predatory lady bird beetles Scymnus coccivora @ 250 adult beetles/ac.
Leaf roller
  • Spray 0.2% of DDVP (@ 1 ml/lit water) 12-15 days after pruning.

Safe period: 15 days.

  • Release egg parasitoids Trichogramma chilonis   @ 4 Tricho cards/acre after 3 days of chemical spray.
Thrips
  • Spray 0.1% of Rogor (@ 3 ml/litre water) 12-15 days after pruning.

   Safe period: 20 days

  • Release predatory lady bird beetles Scymnus coccivora @ 250 adult beetles/ac.
Silkworm Diseases
 
Grasserie
  • Conduct thorough disinfection of rearing house, surroundings and appliances with recommended disinfectant solution.
  • Conduct an optional disinfection with 0.3% slaked lime solution when high incidence of disease noticed in the previous crop.
  • Practice personal and rearing hygiene.
  • Maintain optimum temperature and humidity in the rearing house.
  • Do not feed tender leaves in the late instars, feed quality mulberry leaf and avoid overcrowding.
  • Apply bed disinfectant, Ankush or Vijetha as per schedule.

 

Muscardine
  • Conduct thorough disinfection of rearing house, surroundings and appliances with recommended disinfectant solution.
  • Practice personal and rearing hygiene.
  • Avoid Low temperature and high humidity in the rearing house. If required use heater/stove to raise the temperature.
  • Regulate bed humidity during rainy season by dusting slake lime powder during moult.
  • Control mulberry pests in the mulberry garden.
  • Pick up diseased larvae before mummification and dispose them by burning.
  • Apply bed disinfectant, Ankush or Vijetha and Vijetha supplement as per schedule and quantity.
Flacherie
  • Conduct thorough disinfection of rearing house, surroundings and appliances with recommended disinfectant solution.
  • Practice personal and rearing hygiene.
  • Feed silkworms with good quality leaf. Do not provide over matured/over stored /dirty leaf.
  • Avoid starvation, overcrowding and accumulation of faeces in the rearing bed.
  • Rear silkworms under optimum temperature and humidity.
  • Avoid injury to the larvae.
  • Apply bed disinfectant, Ankush or Vijetha as per schedule.

 

Uzi fly Avoid accidental introduction of silkworm pest, uzi fly (Exorista bombycis) by following precautions:

  • Do not transport any reeling/seed cocoons from the uzi infested area to your area.
  • If cocoons are marketed from your area to uzi infested area, ensure that no uzi maggots/pupae are hiding in the gunny bags used for transportation of cocoons before taking them back.
